Anganmedilla National Park

Discover the Natural Beauty of Anganmedilla National Park

Nestled in the Polonnaruwa District of Sri Lanka's North Central Province, Anganmedilla National Park is a hidden gem waiting to be explored. Established on June 6, 2006, this park is one of the newer additions to Sri Lanka's impressive array of national parks. Located approximately 255 kilometers from Colombo, the park is accessible via Habarana, Polonnaruwa, and Kalahagala, with Polonnaruwa being the nearest main town.

A Rich History and Vital Ecosystem

Originally part of the Minneriya-Girithale Sanctuary, which was declared a forest reserve on February 12, 1988, Anganmedilla National Park was designated to protect the crucial drainage basin of Parakrama Samudra. This park also safeguards the drainage basins of Minneriya and Girithale irrigation tanks, ensuring the preservation of vital water sources in Sudu Kanda (meaning "white hill" in Sinhala) and the diverse habitats and wildlife of the surrounding forests. The park is characterized by a stunning mountain range that adds to its scenic beauty.

Visitor Experience and Facilities

Anganmedilla National Park offers a unique experience for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers. The park features two campsites, Rajabemma and Mahaiyawa, and a bungalow for those who prefer a more comfortable stay. Visitors can immerse themselves in the serene environment, enjoy the rich biodiversity, and explore the lush landscapes.
